Women are being buried alive as part of “our tribal custom.” I don’t know why I’m not shocked even as I’m telling myself this is some insane kind of horror.
Balochistan Senator Sardar Israrullah Zehri stunned the upper house on Friday when he defended the recent incident of burying alive three teenage girls and two women in his province, saying it was part of “our tribal custom.”
Senator Bibi Yasmin Shah of the PML-Q raised the issue citing a newspaper report that the girls, three of them aged between 16 and 18 years, had been buried alive a month ago for wishing to marry of their own will.
At least this is shocking even to some Pakistanis.
What do you think? Shall I renounce my Paki citizenship?

I do not think you should renounce your citizenship, but use it to try and gain support amongst other women and men who feel the same way about the social issues taking place in Pakistan. You are Pakistani, but that does not mean that you are the same type of Pakistani that supports horrid acts described above. But ultimately do what is right for yourself, your family, and ultimately whatever you believe in.
Social movements are almost always the key to getting the ball rolling on an issue. I don’t live in Pakistan, so I don’t know the extent of the fear that citizens who protest against atrocities like these must carry with them. However, know that millions of people world wide support any positive action for the basic human rights of individuals.

This is horrible! If I were in your shoes, I just might renounce my citizenship. But that may not be the right answer. All I can say is, do what you can to bring attention to the plight of women there. I think I’ll share this with the women in my “circle.”
