Thank Heaven for Rick Warren’s Homophobia

Yeah, you read that right. I’m glad Rick Warren is a homophobic bigot.

If he’d merely been an anti-choice misogynist calling for wives to submit to husbands, hardly anyone would have noticed.

The gay thing woke up part of the left and at least there’s somewhat of an outcry.

Of course, when they protest against Warren, half of them forget that Warren is actually against half of humanity – in other words, hates everyone who isn’t a straight male. That hardly ever registers with male “progressives.” I wonder why.

  1. That’s the truth. I guess people just expect dudes to be anti-choice and hate women.

  2. it doesn’t register because women have won their battle on choice in America, and anyone ranting against that is someone not a major threat for the next several years.

Kind of like how people just ignore crazy truthers etc – they’re irrelevant and harmless in their rantings.

The gay rantings are relevant currently, and a policy threat, for obvious reasons.

  3. It’s a curiosity, all right. Hmmm … why don’t the menz care? Can’t figure it out.

  4. I’m just eagerly anticipating the day when atheists can mount as effective a response in the face of anti-atheist bigotry as the gay community can in cases like this.

  5. B, your eyes must be brown – you are so full of shit.

  6. I care. Warren’s entire theology, like the theology of fundamentalists everywhere, orthodox or reformed alike, is deeply anti-human. To hate the freedom of a woman is to hate the human ability to choose as their individual conscience dictates to them. Men like Rick Warren don’t care about their fellow man or even moral right or wrong. They care about their own outraged sense of propriety. They hate themselves, and so they hate everyone else.

  7. Eyes, hell, it didn’t even get that far. The crap is pouring out of his ears at warp speed.

  8. Tinfoil: thanks for the good laugh.

“misogynist calling for wives to submit to husbands” — that’s what they’re calling misogynist these days? Shocking!

  9. As far as I’m aware, the one doing the submitting in my relationship is me. My wife earns the big money, so I do the cooking and the house maintenance. Still not allowed to touch the laundry, though.

  10. This is why I love you, Apostate. I’ve been wondering why even the feminist blogs haven’t mentioned this much.

  11. James — so you are positing a link between being the lower earner and submitting to ones partner?

Based on that, you appear to be theorizing that in the large majority of hetero relationships, the woman submits?

And yeah, the above are rhetorical.

  12. I enjoy reading you blog – I hope you don’t mind if I link to you.

    Hassan.

  13. No, Octagalore, I’m equating earning the big money with having less fucking time to devote to household tasks or things that you actually enjoy.

Christ, that was a knee-jerk response if I ever saw one.

  14. Hi,

    I was reading ur blog posts and found some of them to be very good.. u write well.. Why don’t you popularize it more.. ur posts on ur blog ‘The Apostate’ took my particular attention as some of them are interesting topics of mine too;

BTW I help out some ex-IIMA guys who with another batch mate run http://www.rambhai.com where you can post links to your most loved blog-posts. Rambhai was the chaiwala at IIMA and it is a site where users can themselves share links to blog posts etc and other can find and vote on them. The best make it to the homepage!

This way you can reach out to rambhai readers some of whom could become your ardent fans.. who knows.. :)

  16. My OPINION…I am not trained in sociology or psychology…and speaking from the point of view of a once-married gay man: is that straight guys revel in their privilege. Most of them don’t realize the shear amount of bennies they get for just being born heterosexual with a penis. They just go along with it as ‘how things are’.

As they age quite a few realize that they’ve had it good and some change for the better, but most will begin to defend their privilege and refuse to acknowledge that the deference they expect isn’t earned and is a sort of cultural mistake.

  17. Jack, I don’t think you’re precisely correct. We straight white christian-appearing men don’t get “bennies”, it’s just that we’re not routinely and constantly arbitrarily fucked over in the same way. It’s a subtle distinction, but important, because we want to extend the same treatment that SWCAM get to non-straights, non-whites, non-christian-appearing people and women as opposed to taking away immoral “special” rights in the sense that communists want to expropriate the capitalist class.
